An official online petition against the shooting of badgers, launched only a few weeks ago, has so far attracted nearly 40,000 names. If the petition reaches 100,000 names before February it must be considered for a debate in Parliament.
The petition allows a real-time observation of where people care about the issue. The cull was extended to Cornwall last month – and so far the county has contributed 893 names towards the total.
