A so-called "Never Event" has happened at Truro's Royal Cornwall hospital, resulting in a tissue sample taken from the wrong part of a patient.
The patient suffered no long term harm and the hospital is reviewing its procedures to find out how the mistake was made. Surgery involving the wrong part of a patient is always labelled as a "Never Event" and is automatically reported to the hospital's managing Trust, which is due to meet tomorrow.
